Doodling keeps your mind sharp

People asked to do a doodling task while listening to a dull, monotonous phone message recalled 29 per cent more information on a surprise memory test than non-doodlers.

According to the study, published this week in the journal Applied Cognitive Psychology, “doodling while working can be beneficial.”

“This study suggests that in everyday life, doodling may be something we do because it helps to keep us on track with a boring task, rather than being an unnecessary distraction that we should try to resist doing,” researcher Jackie Andrade said in announcing the results.
